Understanding Sheet Columns
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| `item_name` | The name of the menu item as it appears on the website. |
| `description` | Short description shown below the item name (optional). Keep under 2 lines. |
| `price` | Numeric price without $ symbol. Use `MP` for Market Price, `0` for no price. |
| `active` | `TRUE` = visible on site. `FALSE` = hidden from site. Must be UPPERCASE. |
| `category` | The section grouping (e.g. "Steaks and Chops", "Salads", "Sides"). |
| `sort_order` | Controls display order. Lower numbers appear first. Set to 1 for top, 99 for bottom. |
| `dietary_tags` | Comma-separated tags: GF (Gluten Free), V (Vegetarian), VG (Vegan), DF (Dairy Free). |
Price Field Formatting Rules
| Requirement | What to type in Google Sheets |
|---|---|
| Standard Price | `52` (whole numbers) or `52.50` (decimals) - **Never include $ signs** |
| Market Price | `MP` |
| Hide Price | `0` |
| Seasonal Varies | `Seasonal` |
✓ Best Practices
- Use `active = FALSE` to hide out-of-stock items instead of deleting them.
- Use standard Title Case for category names (`Steaks and Chops`, not `steaks & chops`).
- Double check that `active` is exactly UPPERCASE `TRUE` or `FALSE`.
✗ What NOT to Do
- Do not type `$` characters in the price column (breaks parsing).
- Do not edit or delete Row 1 headers in Google Sheets.
- Do not delete entire rows; they preserve item history for easy re-activation.
Troubleshooting & Caching
If changes do not appear on the website after 60 seconds, perform a **hard refresh** to bypass browser-cached layouts:
• Mac: Cmd + Shift + R
• Windows: Ctrl + Shift + R
